Dose Of Achievement
Student Spotlight
LSC-Online Biology student Vanessa Free is thrilled to be living her dream! She's been accepted into the Pharmacy Doctorate program at the University of Houston, starting this fall. Vanessa shared her inspiring journey with us:
I was born in Kazakhstan, so Central Asia, and moved to Germany when I was 12 years old, that is where I lived before I moved here. I met my husband there. We had a child together, our first one, and decided to move here specifically so I can study pharmacy. I always wanted to study pharmacy. It was not possible in my home country. When I moved here, I knew I could finally study pharmacy. So, I did everything to reach that goal.
I found out that going to Community College first is the best option, and then I had the choice between Houston Community College and Lone Star College, and I decided to go to LSC-Online, because I liked the atmosphere better and the website looked more approachable to me.
I was struggling in chemistry in the beginning and Professor Martinez, the way she teaches, she provides so many different ways with which you can learn the different topics.
The same with Dr. Silva, who had a lot of different communication opportunities. If I was struggling with a certain topic, he was very communicative. It helped make it possible that I have the GPA I have now.
Vanessa's ultimate goal is to earn her doctorate in pharmacy and become a clinical science liaison, working with doctors and healthcare providers to educate them about pharmaceutical advancements.
Anyone that is contemplating going to college or maybe went to college and stopped going at a certain point, try again. Just go for it. Go to LSC-Online, if you have other things going on in your life, if you have children, work, just a busy schedule it is so worth it to just give it another try. I'm 29 now, and where I'm from people have told me I'm too old to go to college, I'm too busy, I'm a mom, I need to work and make money. But now being able to do the doctorate actually that is just the biggest achievement, one of the biggest achievements in my life. So, anyone thinking about going to college, just go for it, try it out!
