National Hispanic Heritage Month
Student and Faculty Focus
Armando Flores, born in Texas, proudly represents Mexico and Honduras. Armando is deeply grateful to his parents for their courageous decision to move to the US.
Armando chose to major in Business Administration, inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit of his family.
I believe I should follow in those footsteps and learn everything I can about managing a business. Hopefully one day starting up my own business, and try my best to study and be the first person to graduate in my family.
For Lorraine Lopez, a Mathematics Professor, Hispanic Heritage means family. Raised in a loving Mexican American household, on a 5-acre farm filled with fun family traditions.
In her career, Lorraine values representation. As one of the first Hispanic female faculty members at her previous College.
She takes pride in inspiring students, especially in the male-dominated field of mathematics.
It was very important when I stepped onto the scene that they were represented in front of the classroom not just Hispanic, but a woman. Because the math classroom was also predominantly male in the 90s.
