National Hispanic Heritage Month
Celebrating Culture & Contributions
Born and raised in Aguada, Puerto Rico, Dr. Morales, President of Lone Star College-Online, is the oldest of three siblings and maintains a strong connection to his homeland. He and his family return often to Puerto Rico to enjoy it's vibrant culture, food, and community. For Dr. Morales, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor values and celebrate.
Certainly, culture is very, very important in terms of preserving it and relaying it to others and to the ones that come after us.
For me, it's also an opportunity to model because of the role that I have as an educator, as an administrator. I want students and others to see that this is attainable. I am a model in higher education, and I want to help others achieve that very success for themselves. Don't lose sight of your culture. Celebrate your culture.
Noralba Arriaga was born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and raised in the U.S. She values her heritage and the sacrifices her family have made. Inspired by her father’s hard work and her desire to help others, Norbala plans a future career in nursing. She celebrates her culture through family traditions and encourages others to honor their roots and stay connected to their values that shape them.
Hispanic Heritage means to me being proud of where I come from and honoring all the sacrifices that my family has made. It means carrying on the same traditions and values that I grew up with. We always get together, cook traditional foods and connect. Just recently we gathered for my grandparents’ 50th anniversary and we had a big celebration!
